Julie is a Consultant with BDC Advisors, LLC. She specializes in marketing strategy, technology valuation, and strategic planning. Julie has seven years of diverse consulting and life science industry experience, including product development, valuation of early-stage business opportunities, marketing and product launches, and technology partnerships. Specific areas of specialization include:
- Market segmentation and strategy development
- Stage-gate product development
- Business case valuation
- Pricing and bundling analysis
- Consumer market research and analysis
- Valuation of financial instruments
- Statistical and regression analysis
In her most recent client engagement, Julie constructed financial models of strategic options for a Midwest community hospital, evaluating potential ventures with physicians and the return on investment for service line strategies. The financial models evaluated the profitability potential of market share gains within the local market based on utilization patterns and local payer mix. For a Northeastern academic medical center, she has conducted studies on physician compensation and productivity in faculty practices and projected regional physician supply and demand. In another Northeastern market, Julie has built financial models to demonstrate the feasibility and funds flow of a joint venture of cardiovascular services at two hospitals. This model required standardizing the cost accounting methodology across disparate systems and was employed to support the business case for the venture and quantify the degrees of financial risk to each party under various market conditions.
Prior to joining BDC Advisors, Julie was a product marketing manager for MDL Information Systems conducting inbound and outbound marketing for enterprise level drug discovery informatics for pharmaceutical and biotech customers worldwide. Her responsibilities included developing business cases for new technology, running beta test sites, training the global salesforce, advertising and promotion programs, pricing and bundling of services, and managing conference and tradeshow activity. Her previous experience includes consulting at A.T. Kearney for software, pharmaceutical, and energy clients designing marketing strategy, merger integration implementation efforts, and technology valuation through modeling of real options.
Other technical experience includes three years of academic research in joint engineering departments with the Northwestern University Medical School, studying the effects of mechanical forces on pleural cells to model the mechanotransduction events due to artificial respiration used on young patients, and at Children’s Hospital in Boston, investigating the feasibility of biodegradable polymers as transplant scaffolds for liver tissue.
Julie received her Master of Business Administration in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago, a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T.
