In addition to her work with BDC Advisors, Cathy currently serves as the Director, Strategic Financial Planning for a regional real estate development, management and investment company in Birmingham, Alabama. She develops the company’s short term and long term financial plans and prepares assessments of their existing and potential investments.
Cathy has over twenty five years of experience as a senior healthcare financial executive. She served fifteen years as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Brookwood Health Services, Inc., a Tenet Healthcare Corporation asset in Birmingham, Alabama. At Brookwood, Cathy managed the financial operations of a 586-bed acute care facility and other affiliated entities representing over $180 million in annual revenues. Her financial review responsibilities included the hospital, three diagnostic centers, two surgery centers, and four medical office buildings. In addition to annual budget preparation responsibilities, Cathy coordinated the annual update to the Strategic Financial Plan for the medical center.
Cathy coordinated the financial assessment for Tenet of the affiliation with two other hospital systems in Birmingham. She evaluated the practices of over 20 primary care physicians in the expansion of Tenet’s Primary Care Network development. During her time at Brookwood, she provided financial oversight to Lloyd Noland Hospital (319 beds), another Tenet facility. Cathy was responsible for the payer contracting strategy, as Brookwood obtained the position of market share leader with Blue Cross and all other HMO plans in the state.
Prior to her work at Brookwood, Cathy served as the Associate Executive Director/Finance at Medical City Dallas Hospital in Dallas, Texas for three years. She provided the financial management oversight to this 545-bed hospital during a $37 million dollar construction project which included a 196-bed addition and a major ancillary expansion. Cathy began her career with Humana in Chattanooga where she served as the chief financial officer in a 128 bed facility. Over the next four years she was the chief financial officer in two other Humana hospitals, a 250 bed hospital in Virginia Beach and a 416 bed hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
Cathy received her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, and her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
