Dudley grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, where his father was an artist and head of the Art Department at the Lawrenceville School. Dudley graduated from Yale with a BA in Political Science with a focus on international relations and then served in the U.S. Army.

Dudley has over 25 years of senior consulting and management experience in healthcare and information technology. He began his career as a correspondent for Time and Life magazines where he covered civil rights and politics in the South during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations. He then resided in Washington, D.C. and worked for Sargent Shriver at the U.S. Office of Economic Opportunity where he helped to launch Head Start, the national pre-school program. Dudley was a deputy commissioner in the Health Services Administration of John Lindsay, Mayor of New York City, and a founding partner and a managing director of APM Inc., the national health care consulting firm that was acquired by the Computer Science Corporation in 1996. At BDC Advisors, he focuses on providing strategic advice to academic medical centers, integrated healthcare delivery systems, health plans, and investor-owned providers.

Dudley and his wife reside in Southern California and have four adult children.
