Dave grew up in Akron, Ohio, attended Phillips Academy, and received his BS from Yale College in Organizational Behavior, where he was in Navy ROTC. He earned an MBA and Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.

Following four years in the US Navy Submarine Service, Dave began his professional career as a consultant with McKinsey & Company in their San Francisco, New York and Copenhagen offices. While at McKinsey, he managed the “Excellent Companies” project which provided the foundation research for the best seller, In Search of Excellence. After completing his PhD, he accepted a faculty position at the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he taught organizational behavior, human resource management, and management of technology. Dave returned to consulting in 1986 and joined APM, a specialized healthcare consulting firm where he became a partner and Western Region Managing Director. Following APM’s acquisition by Computer Sciences Corporation in 1996, Dave was named Managing Director of Consulting for CSC Healthcare.

Dave brings over 20 years of consulting experience and senior line experience in health services and technology companies to his role at BDC Advisors. His practice focuses on strategy for large community hospitals, academic medical centers, not-for-profit and investor-owned health systems, health plans, and healthcare technology companies.

A father of three, Dave enjoys singing (he was a Yale Whiffenpoof), sports (especially tennis and swimming), and drama. He has published numerous articles and is a frequent speaker on healthcare, organization design, and technology issues.
