Bill has been a Managing Director with BDC Advisors for over ten years. In addition, he offers clients his extensive experience in senior executive roles in two industry-leading healthcare and senior living services companies and a healthcare start-up venture. Bill leads BDC Advisors’ payer-provider innovation practice and has directed a wide range of engagements for clients across the country. He specializes in work with academic health systems, including clients such as Duke Health, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Partners Health, University of Chicago Medicine, and large, complex community health systems such as CHE Trinity Health, BayCare, and Meridian. Recent engagements have included a system strategy for a leading academic health system, design and development of clinically integrated networks, development of innovative payer-provider partnerships, and development of Medicare Advantage health plans.

Bill has authored numerous published articles and was recently honored by hfm Magazine with the 2013-14 Helen Yerger / L. Vann Seawell Best Author Award for his article entitled “Partnering with Payers? Key Lessons to Keep in Mind.”  He was again honored with the 2014-15 Helen Yerger / L. Vann Seawell Best Author Award for his article entitled “Health Care’s New Game Changer: Thinking Like a Health Plan.”

Prior to joining BDC Advisors, Bill served as Vice President and member of the founding management team of American WholeHealth, Inc., a venture-backed start-up operating integrative medicine clinics and alternative practitioner networks. While at AWH, he developed the company’s business plan, helped raise over $65 million in private equity, managed the marketing and retail pharmacy functions, negotiated key business partnerships, and developed and helped launch an award-winning alternative medicine web site.

Bill also served as Vice President – Marketing and Strategy for Manor Care, Inc.’s healthcare operations. He managed the company’s strategy, sales, and marketing functions during a period in which company revenues doubled to over $1 billion, profitability led the industry, and market value tripled. Prior to joining Manor Care, Bill led an evaluation of healthcare industry diversification opportunities for Marriott Corporation and developed a business strategy for entering the senior living services marketplace. He then led the new venture team that launched Marriott’s senior living services business, developing and acquiring over $250 million in retirement community projects. Bill began his career in the healthcare consulting practice of Booz Allen Hamilton, where he led a wide range of consulting engagements, including corporate and business strategy, organization and corporate restructuring, and market and financial feasibility studies for integrated health systems, community hospitals, and academic medical centers throughout the United States.

Bill holds a Master of Management (MBA) degree in Marketing and Health Services Management from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, where he was named a Distinguished Scholar and the Outstanding Graduate in Health Services Management. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies with honors from Lawrence University. Bill is active in professional and community organizations and currently serves on the board of Five Talents International, an Anglican-based non-profit focused on microeconomic development in the developing world.
